NYU Courant's Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science is seeking outstanding<br class="">

researchers with strong physical insight and analytical ability to join<br class="">

the research group of Prof. Laure Zanna (<a href="http://laurezanna.github.io/" class="">http://laurezanna.github.io</a><br class="">

<<a href="http://laurezanna.github.io/" class="">http://laurezanna.github.io/</a>>).  Some of our recent work includes:<br class="">

ocean dynamics and climate change, air-sea interactions, predictability<br class="">

in mid-latitudes and stochastic parameterizations of turbulent ocean<br class="">

processes. We are primarily interested in researchers who can<br class="">

incorporate ideas and tools from machine learning to solve fundamental<br class="">

problems in ocean/climate dynamics and modeling.<br class="">

<br class="">

The possible project topics include: assessing the predictability of<br class="">

climate phenomena, improving subgrid-scale parameterizations, the<br class="">

inference of climate variables/processes from sparse data (e.g.<br class="">

paleoproxy or satellite data), uncertainty quantification for ensemble<br class="">

simulations. The earliest start date is September 2019. These positions<br class="">

are full time appointments initially for one year and renewable<br class="">

conditional on satisfactory performance and funding.<br class="">

The Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science is a unit of the department of<br class="">

Mathematics, within the NYU Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.<br class="">

NYU Courant is a highly respected institute for cutting-edge research<br class="">

and advanced training in applied mathematics and computer science. NYU<br class="">

Courant has strong links with the NYU Center for Data Science (CDS),<br class="">
