<p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white;vertical-align:top"><span style="font-size:13.0pt;font-family:Roboto;color:#363636">The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to conduct
advanced landslide modeling experiments on a diverse set of mass movements in the western US. The primary objective of this research is to determine how and why interactions between extreme precipitation, wildfires, earthquakes and mass movements can lead
to cascading hazards and large-scale disasters. The applicant will be part of a larger NASA collaborative effort seeking to advance understanding of the pre-conditioning of environmental factors and physical mechanisms that result in cascading hazards, involving
integration of remote sensing and in situ observations with physically-based, coupled hydrologic, mass movement and hydraulic models. Specific goals of this position include investigation of the interaction of large precipitation events wildfire and mass movements
in Colorado, earthquakes, debris dams and mass movements in California, wildfire and mass movements in Washington state and climate change, glacial recession and mass movements in southeastern Alaska. The applicant will work with an experienced group of remote
sensing and modeling researchers to develop advanced landslide models and experiments at a series of scales, incorporating results from hydrologic modeling and advanced data products to gain insight into the triggering and dynamics of cascading landslide hazard.
The participant is encouraged to develop new and novel approaches to these problems and extend their work to other geographical domains. This research position will provide professional development opportunities in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary
environment, with the potential to participate in education and outreach activities.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
