<b><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">Synopsis: </span></b><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">Poor air quality is a global health concern affecting virtually all nations and all of society. It is characterised by

 harmful levels of tropospheric ozone, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter (e.g. PM2.5), for which evidence links acute and chronic exposure to increased morbidity. Since the 1990s, the distribution of anthropogenic pollutant emissions (e.g. from transport,

 industry, agriculture etc.) has markedly shifted from Europe and North America to Asia – where rapid economic expansion has occurred. The goal of this PhD project is to quantify global and regional pollutant trends under a changing climate, with a focus on

 (a) understanding and attributing extreme pollution events (including their frequency and duration) and (b) determining source-receptor relationships – e.g. how have Asian emissions affected European air quality over the last decade; how will climate change

 influence trans-continental pollutant transport?</span><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
