</o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--></head><body lang=EN-US link="#0563C1" vlink="#954F72"><div class=WordSection1><p class=MsoNormal><b>Postdoc Researcher: Marine Biogeochemical Model Development and Application in the E3SM Earth System Model</b><o:p></o:p></p><p style='margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt'> <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Job Description: </b>We seek a postdoc to work on the development and application of the marine biogeochemical component within the U.S. Department of Energy’s new Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) The work will use and extend an ocean biogeochemical ecosystem model within an adaptive complexity framework. Work will include some implementation and testing, analysis of marine biogeochemistry in fully coupled Earth system simulations, and implementation of developments related to the improved representation of carbon cycling in polar regions, shelf and coastal environments. An ultimate goal for the position will be projections of the climate impact of marine biogeochemical systems under a suite of human interaction scenarios calculated within the coupled E3SM Earth system-modeling framework. The successful candidate will be partly responsible for identifying specific science goals compatible with these broader requirements.<o:p></o:p></p><p style='margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt'> <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>Desired Skills:</b> The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of marine biogeochemical cycles; past experience with the BEC (Biogeochemical Elemental Cycling) model or comparable global or regional marine carbon cycling model would be advantageous; computational ocean and/or sea ice ecosystem modeling; experience in the use and/or analysis of earth system models; expertise in computer programming in languages compatible with high-performance computing (e.g. Fortran90, C, C++); expertise in data-analysis languages (e.g. Python, Matlab). He/she will have also demonstrated scientific excellence as evidenced by submission and publication of authored publications in refereed journals, the ability to create or improve numerical models, and the ability to analyze and interpret biogeochemical simulation data.
