For example, directly across the Mississippi River from the CCFS is the 3,700-acre Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary, which contains a 1,200 acre wetland/prairie restoration project, and immediately downriver lies Maple Island, a 400-acre natural area licensed to NGRREC for ecological research.
