The Department of Atmospheric Science is a large academic and research department in the Walter J. Scott College of Engineering at Colorado State University. We currently have eighteen faculty members, nearly one hundred graduate students, approximately fifty

The Precipitation Systems Research Group, led by Associate Professor Russ Schumacher, conducts research to improve the understanding and prediction of extreme rainfall, which often results in damaging flash flooding. We use a variety of data and methods, including

The person selected for this position will conduct collaborative research to advance the prediction of excessive rainfall through post-processing of numerical weather prediction (<span class="caps">NWP</span>) model output. This person will contribute to ongoing
work to apply machine learning algorithms to observations and <span class="caps">NWP</span> models, and will work alongside NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center (<span class="caps">WPC</span>) Hydrometeorology Testbed (<span class="caps">HMT</span>) to use these
methods to improve <span class="caps">WPC</span> forecast products.<o:p></o:p></p>
