Planning Section has an immediate opening for a motivated staff person to
oversee the agency’s Sustainable Communities research program. The Section
serves as an agency-wide resource for research on sustainable transportation
and communities. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and
coordinating cutting-edge analysis and research to support the Board’s
decision-making related to land use and transportation planning. The
candidate should be familiar with relevant state policies (e.g., SB 375), local
and regional land use and transportation planning and financing, including the
complexities of land use and housing policy, and familiar with existing tools
(quantitative and qualitative) used in planning processes. They should
also be aware of the environmental and social equity implications of land use
and transportation planning, and with the dynamic nature of the transportation
system including new mobility strategies and services. The incumbent will be
responsible for assessing, developing, and improving metrics, tools, resources,
and strategies to support the Air Resources Board’s policies to reduce
emissions from land use and transportation, and must be committed to working
closely with other CARB staff, metropolitan planning organizations, local
governments, academics, and other stakeholders to ensure that the tools and
