<span class="printverysmall">What the Public Affairs Analyst does </span><br>
<br>
<span class="printverysmall">The Public Affairs Analyst elevates AGU’s status among U.S. Congress and the Administration by enabling AGU to respond more rapidly and comprehensively to Capitol Hill and media requests. The Analyst will also help engage AGU members
 in science policy events and activities through creation and dissemination of informational resources for its membership and policymakers.</span><br>
<br>
<span class="printverysmall">Reporting to Assistant Director, Public Affairs, the Public Affairs Analyst collaborates regularly with the members of the Public Affairs team and other AGU staff.</span><br>
<br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Develops forward-looking and ongoing plans to ensure AGU is maximizing its social media (The Bridge blog, Twitter, Facebook, etc.).</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Creates a content management strategy for AGU websites, social media, and external written products.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Drafts materials for Eos. </span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Helps create a strategic Web presence for Science Policy. </span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Conducts policy research, analyzes issues, monitors legislative and regulatory developments related to science and develops advocacy statements in support of research in the geophysical sciences.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Researches and develops fact sheets and content for science policy letters. </span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Provides rapid response research and content creation as needed for Congress, media, members, etc.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Assists in development of GeoPolicy Connect website and event-specific content.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Provides long-term planning of content and products.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Develops relationships that foster resources of information (government, AGU members, and Capitol Hill staff).</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Understands what information is available, and develops reliable methodology for seeking material.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Understands motivations of policymakers, media, and other audiences. </span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Analyzes appropriations policies and authorizing bills for language relevant to AGU.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Maintains ongoing familiarity with research sources relevant to AGU science policy work.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Assesses areas of content (government agencies, federal legislation, scientific papers, etc.)</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Works with the leadership of the department to develop larger research projects, such as white papers, including supervising consultants, ensuring appropriate methodologies, etc.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Other duties as assigned.</span><br>
<br>
<span class="printverysmall">What the Public Affairs Analyst brings to the team</span><br>
<br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy or related discipline with 4-5 years of experience.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Experience using research methodologies. </span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Experience working with consultants is a plus.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Experience in a scientific, knowledge-based or technical setting is a plus, but not required.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Previous experience working in a membership organization environment is preferred.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Ability to read, interpret, analyze, and apply legislation to AGU program policies, and make good decisions without direct daily oversight.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Ability to understand scientific publications. </span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Excellent analytical skills.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate easily and effectively with both internal and external audiences.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Willingness to develop relationships with policy makers, scientists, and other stakeholders.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Ability to perform responsibilities with composure, accuracy, and quality under the stress of deadlines and/or fast pace.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Good organizational skills with attention to detail.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Ability to think creatively and act proactively to seek opportunities for advancing AGU goals.</span><br>
<span class="printverysmall">* Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.</span><br>
