long term dreams, they are now rapidly being brought to reality in pockets of the world. But it is both likely, and crucially necessary for greenhouse gas emissions and urban pollution, that this shift accelerates.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

around the world at very little cost in time and money. Unfortunately, that system’s carbon emissions impose a cost we cannot afford to pay any longer: shipping and aviation each emit about as much carbon as Germany’s entire economy. In the U.S., fully 20
percent of carbon emissions come from cars, while freight-hauling big rigs are even more carbon intensive.
