The PhD candidate will work with IAS Hans Fischer Senior Fellows, Professor Noelle Eckley Selin (MIT) and Professor Henrik Selin (Boston University) and their host, Professor Miranda Schreurs (TUM School of Governance). The successful candidate will be located in the Bavarian School of Public Policy/TUM School of Governance and will be enrolled as a PhD Candidate in the TUM Graduate School. <br class=""><br class="">Project description and Tasks:The research addresses the governance of sustainability transitions. The project will focus on one or more environmental pollution issues, which will be defined and scoped in consultation between the successful applicant and the advisors. <br class="">-Conduct interdisciplinary research on governing environmental sustainability transitions <br class="">-Conduct related empirical research <br class="">-Assist in organizing and participation in related workshops and seminars <br class="">-Involvement in publication activities <br class="">-Possible research stays at MIT and/or Boston University <br class=""><br class="">Qualifications <br class="">-Above average Master’s degree in a related field <br class="">-Experience with mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) <br class="">-Strong English oral and written communication skills <br class="">-Previous experience working in an international, inter-disciplinary research team is highly desirable <br class="">-Publications or other related research experience is a plus <br class=""><br class="">Application materials <br class="">-Statement of research interest (maximum 7 pages) <br class="">-A motivation letter (maximum 2 pages) <br class="">-Two examples of previous written work <br class="">-CV <br class="">-academic record (transcripts, certifications) <br class="">-Names and contact information of two referees (no letters of reference required) <br class=""><br class="">Position <br class="">The applicant will be involved in a structured PhD program (<a href="https://www.hfp.tum.de/en/phd-program/" class="">https://www.hfp.tum.de/en/phd-program/</a>).
