involve testing and evaluating existing and new cloud parameterizations in both hindcasts and climate simulations with the new DOE Energy Exascale Earth system model (E3SM) against both satellite and field data. One particular research area is to understand
processes that control the diurnal variation of precipitation over different climate regimes in observations and in models, as well as identify deficiencies and missing physics in E3SM to gain insights for further improving cloud parameterizations. This position
