 Nathaniel Livesey</span></a>, and join JPL's "Stratosphere and Upper Troposphere" group that is responsible for various projects, notably the "Microwave Limb Sounder" (MLS) instrument on NASA's Aura satellite. While the active sounding effort is the main focus
 and overriding priority of the work, opportunities to participate in and contribute to other activities within the group can be anticipated.  The appointee will carry out research in collaboration with Dr. Livesey, resulting in publications in the open literature.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

 remote sounding concept under development within NASA's "Instrument Incubator Program". The work will include constructing several end-to-end measurement simulators, including those for an in-space configuration of the concept, for balloon-borne proof-of-concept
 flights, and for use during system testing in laboratory and radar-range environments. The candidate will play a leading role in work to map between measurement requirements/capabilities and instrument specifications/performance. Participation in the field
 during airborne testing is also anticipated.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
