<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#4B4B4B">The Arecibo Observatory (AO) in Puerto Rico, famous for its outstanding research in radio astronomy, solar-system studies, and space and atmospheric sciences,
is home to the world’s largest radio/radar telescope. <br>

AO invites applications for multiple observatory scientist positions in observational radio astronomy. The selected applicants will be expected to participate in enabling Arecibo’s user community to obtain the best possible scientific results from the telescope,
and pursue their own cutting-edge research programs. Development of novel observational techniques as well as the commissioning of new observing equipment are of importance. Overall, these positions are expected to be 75% service and 25% independent research.
The selected candidates will be encouraged to apply for grant funding. <br>

field of specialization above those which would be equivalent to the highest degree and at least 5 years appropriate experience. <br>

</span><b><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:black">For observatory senior scientist:</span></b><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#4B4B4B"> Doctoral degree from an accredited institution
in physics or engineering including astronomy, space physics, planetary science, or a related subject, or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization and a record of academic research achievement, or professional qualifications in the field
of specialization above those which would be equivalent to the highest degree and at least 7 years appropriate experience. A demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, a record of scientific publications in planetary science, and experience in applying
for external funding. <br>

Fluency in spoken and written English. <br>

Preferences <br>
Priority will be given for research experience in the following areas: pulsars, and associated phenomena, the interstellar medium as probed by HI, OH and/or molecular lines in the Milky Way and other galaxies, properties of galaxies, active galactic nuclei,
cosmology, the Galactic magnetic field, or high sensitivity VLBI. <br>
<br>
Technical knowledge of at least one branch of radio astronomy observing. Hands on experience at observing facilities a plus. <br>

Special Conditions <br>
This position is funded by contracts and grants and is contingent upon available funding. <br>
