research fellow in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at UBC in Vancouver, British Columbia. We seek an exceptional young scholar to play a leading role in an international and inter-disciplinary network of researchers, examining ocean
deoxygenation trends and impacts with a strong focus on the Northeast Pacific Ocean. The position will involve strong collaboration with researchers at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the University of Victoria, the University of Washington, McGill University
and Dalhousie University, as well as with other international partners in the US, Japan and Chile. The preferred starting date for this position is April, 2018.</span><span style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica","sans-serif";color:#1F497D"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto"><span style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica","sans-serif";color:black">We seek a highly motivated candidate with a deep interest in ocean biogeochemical cycles, advanced training in numerical methods
and data analysis, and strong leadership and inter-personal skills. Candidates must be comfortable spanning distinct research disciplines, methodological approaches and data-types in a thoughtful and innovative manner. The research fellow will compile existing
observations of oxygen and related variables, incorporating data from long-term time series observations with state of the art real-time ocean observing systems in the Pacific Ocean, Canadian Arctic, Gulf of St. Lawrence and Scotian Shelf. She or he will explore
advanced statistical techniques to analyze spatial and temporal trends over multiple scales, and will interface with numerical modellers and economists seeking to understand the mechanistic drivers of deoxygenation trends and their economic impacts on wild
fisheries and aquaculture. The fellow will engage directly with various industry partners to facilitate the development of targeted data access and visualization tools.</span><span style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica","sans-serif";color:#1F497D"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
