The Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences in the College of the Coast & Environment at Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, LA, invites applications for a full-time,
tenure-track, nine-month position at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2018, to support a growing program in Coastal Meteorology. Ph.D. required at the time of appointment; postdoctoral experience preferred. The department will consider
applicants with a wide range of core research and teaching interests in observation and/or modeling, including synoptic, mesoscale, or local dynamic and/or thermodynamic processes in the coastal and/or marine atmosphere. Examples of topical specializations
are tropical cyclones, other secondary circulations, air/sea interactions, remote sensing, thunderstorms, and field instrumentation. The successful applicant will sustain an innovative, productive, and well-funded research program, collaborate with departmental
colleagues, and teach/mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department has nearly 30 active full-time faculty members, approximately 20 research specialists and postdoctoral scientists in residence, five research-active emeriti and adjunct
faculty, and numerous support staff. Strengths include coastal ecology and restoration, wetland biogeochemistry, fisheries, numerical modeling, remote sensing, as well as biological, chemical, geological, and physical oceanography. The department participates
in a BS in Coastal Environmental Science and offers MS and PhD degrees in Oceanography & Coastal Sciences. The department has well-equipped research laboratories and the successful candidate will have access to substantial additional computing resources through
the LSU High Performance Computing Center. A machine shop, with a fleet of small boats and vehicles, is available along with access to larger oceanographic ships and coastal laboratory facilities through the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium. Louisiana’s
Flagship University is a land-, sea-, and space-grant institution with wide-ranging academic programs and outreach. Louisiana’s coastal zone is particularly vulnerable to atmospheric impacts, and the position is in support of the call in LSU’s Strategic Plan
2025 for Louisiana to advance its position as the undisputed leader in research and practice on coastal preservation and restoration.
