This position is part </span><br><span style='background:white'>of a multi-departmental hire of five new faculty to tackle outstanding problems in climate adaptation. </span><br><span style='background:white'>This is an academic year (9-month), Assistant Professor tenure-track position with teaching, research, </span><br><span style='background:white'>outreach/engagement and service responsibilities and includes the expectation that the appointee will </span><br><span style='background:white'>conduct mission-oriented research and outreach/engagement of relevance to the California Agricultural </span><br><span style='background:white'>Experiment Station (</span><a href="http://caes.ucdavis.edu/research/aes">http://caes.ucdavis.edu/research/aes</a><span style='background:white'>).</span><br><b><br>Responsibilities: </b><span style='background:white'>The Department of Land, Air and Water Resources is seeking applicants that focus on </span><br><span style='background:white'>the impacts of new weather extremes with potential relevance to climate adaptation. The appointee is </span><br><span style='background:white'>expected to establish a competitively funded research program to address critical or emerging issues in </span><br><span style='background:white'>climate change and new weather extremes impacts. The appointee will be responsible for teaching both </span><br><span style='background:white'>undergraduate and graduate classes. These could include severe and unusual weather (ATM 10), weather </span><br><span style='background:white'>analysis and prediction (ATM111), climate change (ATM5, ATM116, and ATM245), climate dynamics </span><br><span style='background:white'>(ATM241), and/or new courses on topics related to weather extremes and climate adaptation. </span><br><span style='background:white'>Participation in departmental and university service is expected.</span><br><br><b>Qualifications: </b><span style='background:white'>Ph.D. or equivalent degree in atmospheric science, statistics, data science or a field closely </span><br><span style='background:white'>related to climate change impacts on weather extremes. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Evidence </span><br><span style='background:white'>of research excellence is expected. The candidate should have the ability to develop and instruct </span><br><span style='background:white'>undergraduate and graduate courses and the ability to develop and conduct extramurally funded research </span><br><span style='background:white'>in new weather extremes.
