Research Fellow in Organic Geochemistry, fixed term to 30 June 2020, closing date 2 August:

A postdoctoral research position in organic geochemistry, with a focus on paleoclimate reconstruction, is now available to work with Drs Tom Dunkley Jones, James Bendle and Kirsty Edgar. The successful applicant will work as part
of a NERC-funded team focused on generating new organic biomarker proxies for Eocene temperatures (GDGT- and alkenone-based) and atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations (alkenone-based). New analyses will be undertaken on sediments recovered from a core
taken from the Rockall Trough in the NE Atlantic. These sediments host exceptionally well-preserved organic biomarkers and carbonate microfossils.

To provide analytical and technical support to the Geoscience and Environmental Mass Spectrometry facility (GEMS) in support of researchers in the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. To manage, conduct and administer
the day-to-day operation of mass spectrometric instrumentation. This includes stable isotope analyses in both solid and liquid phases as well as advanced biomarker analyses including the determination of compound-specific isotopes. At present the facility
operates three Isoprime IRMS, with both solid and liquid autosamplers, for the analysis of δ18O, δ13C, δ2H and δ15N. Molecular biomarker analysis is undertaken by GC-FID and GC–MS, with compound specific-isotope analysis by GC-IR-MS.
