Job Summary
<p>Under general supervision of the Director of <span class="gmail-caps">STEM</span> Learning Resources, this position coordinates all aspects of the <span class="gmail-caps">STEM</span>
Learning Centers located in multiple campuses of Salt Lake Community
College. Specific responsibilities include recruiting, training and
evaluating tutors and other learning support staff; managing daily
operations of the center/s, participating in site, regional and
departmental program planning, improvement, budgeting, and reporting;
and creating, facilitating and coordinating college success programming.
<br>
Develops a team environment, encouraging and building mutual trust,
respect and cooperation among Regional and Departmental staff. Manages,
supervises and coordinates employees’ activities by recruiting and
training tutors and other learning support staff. Provides coaching and
development as needed to tutoring/learning support staff. Monitors and
evaluates the effectiveness of the provided services and manages
hardware/software status and repair. Establishes work priorities and
work schedules as well as approves payroll for employees. Updates and
uses relevant knowledge and technology to gather data, prepare reports
and make presentations as needed (even at regional of national
conferences.) Resolves complaints and handles issues within and across
the center(s).<br>
As a service-oriented department, the <span class="gmail-caps">STEM</span> Learning Resources department collaborates heavily with other <span class="gmail-caps">SLCC</span>
departments/programs. In collaboration with other Learning Center
Coordinators this position provides vision and leadership for the <span class="gmail-caps">STEM</span>
Learning Center while also advocating for college success programming.
Develops operational rules and procedures for the centers, participates
in <span class="gmail-caps">CRLA</span> certifications through designing and
teaching classes and tracking and monitoring tutor progress. Maintains
records and record-keeping materials as well as tracking systems data.
Creates and disseminates promotional materials. In collaboration with
Associate Deans, Faculty and Advisors this position identifies students
who need standard and/or specialized tutoring. Monitors quality
assurance and evaluates the effectiveness of the provided services.
Ensures that tutors meet required qualifications by incorporating the
suggestions of subject-matter experts and collaborates with academic
departments in incorporating learning support into course design.
Finally, this position assists the Director in preparing the center’s
budget, requisitions, and any grant writing/reporting. Designs and
implements facilities plans as well as maintains research-supported
programming consistent with institutional learning outcomes.</p>
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
<p>Screen, interview, recommend, train, schedule, monitor and supervise <span class="gmail-caps">MSTRC</span> Tutors. Create schedules and maintain <span class="gmail-caps">MSTRC</span> records.</p>
<p>Provide assistance to students in courses offered by the School of <span class="gmail-caps">SME</span>;
Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Physics, Geosciences, Engineering
Technology, Engineering, Fit Tech and Mathematics. Provide assistance to
faculty and students in using graphing calculators, computers and other
science and Math technology.</p>
<p>Coordinate, schedule and supervise maintenance of computer equipment,
software library, text books, solution manuals and other learning
tools.</p>
<p>Maintain appropriate atmosphere in the <span class="gmail-caps">MSTRC</span> to promote group and individual student learning.</p>
<p>Communicate with staff about methods of tutoring, instructional and
tutorial strategies, schedules, expectations, individual instructor and
student needs, resources and textbooks.</p>
<p>Assist in the planning and implementation of special events (<span class="gmail-caps">SME</span>
Symposium). Attend the meetings and assist with technology projects
and other Math, Science & Technology Center projects and
innovations. Undertake professional development in Mathematics and
Science.</p>

Preferred Qualifications
<p>Master’s degree in Science, Mathematics or closely-related field from an accredited college or university.</p>
<p>Six (6) plus (+) years of related full-time experience.</p>
<p>Knowledge of grant writing and administration processes.</p>
<p>Familiarity with Universal Design for teaching and learning.</p>
Minimum Qualifications
<p>Bachelor ‘s degree in Science, Mathematics or closely related field from an accredited college or university.</p>
<p>Two (2) – four (4) years of direct, paid, full-time work experience.</p>
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
<p>- Ability to apply principles of adult learning theory.<br>
- Demonstrated knowledge of learning styles, study skills and student-centered learning practices.<br>
- Ability to prepare and maintain multiple site budgets and work schedules within budget constraints.<br>
- Competence in standard and college-specific computer applications
(e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, database, TutorTrac, Banner,
Cognos, etc.)<br>
- Communicate effectively in Standard English, both orally and in writing.<br>
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student populations.<br>
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with faculty, students and other staff.<br>
- Knowledge of how to implement customer service principles.<br>
- Ability to make appropriate decisions as needed.<br>
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as required by the task or problem at hand.<br>
- Experience in classroom instruction and curriculum design.<br>
- Demonstrated effective supervisory and leadership skills and developing and leading a team.<br>
- Knowledge of and experience with training principles.<br>
- Knowledge of current research on student retention and completion.<br>
- Ability to present information to small and large groups.<br>
- Familiarity and experience with academic research, analytical writing and report composition.<br>
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse
people, ability, culture, ethnic background and to maintain good working
relationships across the College. <br>
- Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic,
cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty
and staff, including those with different abilities and special needs.</p>
