Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental
Sciences (CIRES) in Boulder, Colorado and the NOAA Earth
System Research Laboratory (ESRL) have an immediate
opening for a research associate with experience in
numerical weather prediction with an emphasis in physical
parameterizations. The scientist will have an appointment
within the Model Development Branch (MDB) of the ESRL
Global Systems Division.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Responsibilities</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span
style="background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial">The
scientist will develop and test modifications in physical
parameterizations, as well as provide support to the
broader community in conducting experiments and
development. The scientist will work in collaboration with
other scientists in ESRL/GSD and also with the
Developmental Testbed Center, Global Model Test Bed and
other groups within ESRL, NCAR, NCEP and other
collaborators through NOAA. This work will be conducted
using a variety of models, modeling systems, and
frameworks, such as the Global Forecast System and the
regional Rapid Refresh (RAP) and High-Resolution Rapid
Refresh (HRRR) systems. It will involve work sponsored by
NOAA’s Next Generation Global Prediction System (NGGPS) to
interface with the broader research and development
community to accelerate the advancement of physical
parameterizations in NOAA’s operational models. The
position is located in Boulder, Colorado. Salary will be
commensurate with experience.</span></p>
