Twelve month, tenure track position with an appointment of 80% Research/20% Teaching. Salary commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will organize and conduct grant-funded basic and applied research on processes controlling root growth and function, and root interactions with the rhizosphere environment. We are specifically interested in candidates who utilize approaches such as stable isotopes, advanced imaging, and metabolomics to focus on basic and applied research topics, including those related to: root abiotic stress; crop productivity and nutrient dynamics; environmental remediation; carbon storage and dynamics in soils; and modeling of root growth. It is expected that experimentation will extend from laboratory and controlled environments to the field. The faculty member will develop a new graduate level course on root growth and rhizosphere processes, and may also contribute to undergraduate classes in soil fertility. Minimum education/experience: Ph.D. in Soil Science, Crop Science, Biogeochemistry, Horticulture, or a related field is required, with extensive training in plant-soil interactions, and advanced biological, chemical, and analytical techniques. In-depth knowledge of the relationship between root-zone processes and whole plant systems is essential.
