The</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">network, funded under a 5-year Research Coordination Network (RCN) grant,</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">links carbon research across disparate fields, following the production and</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">fate of carbon from glacial headwaters and upland forests through streams</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">and rivers to its ultimate endpoint in marine food webs and potential</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">deposition. This position will take the lead in creating and publishing</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">terrestrial C stock assessments along the North Pacific coast, one of the</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">most carbon-dense forested systems in the world, with a specific focus on</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">linking model outputs to lateral carbon transport models to generate a true</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">terrestrial to ocean perspective on C transport. The position will be</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">located in Juneau, Alaska, with opportunity to travel and work with team</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">members at other institutions in the US and Canada as needed.</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">The position is a one-year term, benefit-eligible position with a chance</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">for renewal. All applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field (e.g.,</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">forest/ecosystem ecology, landscape ecology, soil biogeochemistry). The</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">ideal candidate will have a background and skills in landscape-scale forest</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">ecosystems and carbon cycling, such as a background in forest soils or</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">ecosystem-scale flux measurements. Because the goals of the project are</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">explicitly spatial, the candidate should also have experience using and</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">manipulating geospatial and remotely sensed datasets, as well as basic</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python and geospatial</span><br style="color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">software (e.g., ArcGIS or GRASS).
