<div class="">PhD Studentship in Air pollution impacts on agriculture and natural ecosystems at the University of Exeter</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">A fully-funded PhD opportunity is available for a creative candidate with a numerical and/or physical science background to join a new research group in Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Modelling at the University of Exeter. This PhD studentship
will apply the Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES) and its new crop representation JULES-crop in combination with air pollution simulations from the Harvard GEOS-Chem global chemistry-transport model to quantify the individual and combined effects
of ozone, reactive nitrogen deposition and aerosols on crop production and natural ecosystems in Europe and worldwide. The project will study future air quality impacts on crops and forests in Europe under global change, and attribute the air pollution impacts
to source emission sectors. The relative and interactive roles of air pollution, land use, climate change and carbon dioxide fertilization on the future of Europe’s agricultural and natural ecosystems will be examined. The PhD studentship involves travel to
GEOS-Chem meetings at Harvard University. The project is computationally intensive and involves analysis using climate model visualization software. The policy-relevant PhD opportunity provides interdisciplinary training in biosphere-atmosphere interactions,
vegetation, air quality and climate modelling, and establishes a firm foundation of cutting-edge science that underpins the development of climate services.</div>
