The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at The
University of Colorado at Boulder, is seeking a post‐doctoral
researcher to take a leading role in the development of in novel
situ instrumentation for a new long duration scientific balloon
mission called Stratéole 2.

Stratéole 2 will study the chemistry, dynamics and meteorology of
the TTL and lower stratosphere through novel quasi‐ Lagrangian
measurements. This is a ground-breaking campaign and will be the
first long duration instrumented balloon constellation to be
deployed at the equator. The focus of the LASP contribution to this
mission is to make high‐resolution profile measurements of the
temperature structure of the TTL and characterize the phase speed
spectrum of fine scale atmospheric waves for the first time.
Furthermore, we will examine the role of thermal structure in the
dehydration of the TTL and the formation of ice particles from wave
driven temperature fluctuations.
We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in Atmospheric Science or
related physical science or engineer discipline, preferably with
experience in one or more of these fields: atmospheric instrument
development, measurements from airborne platforms, fiber optic
distributed temperature sensing, analysis of in situ measurement
data or high altitude ballooning.
