<p>Applications are invited for tenure-track appointment as
Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in the Department of
Earth Sciences, from September 1, 2017 or as soon as possible
thereafter. The post will initially be made on a three-year term
basis with consideration for tenure during the second three-year
appointment.</p>
<p>The Faculty of Science is one of the larger faculties of The
University of Hong Kong with 123 academic staff in five
departments (Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and
Statistics and Actuarial Science) and one school (Biological
Sciences). The Faculty provides a supportive and friendly
environment and is embarking on a programme of recruitment to
invest in areas of acknowledged strength in which we have
internationally competitive activity. In addition, the Faculty
of Science is committed to gender equality and is looking to
promote women in science, as such the Faculty will particularly
welcome applications from women who are currently
under-represented at these levels. The Faculty will also be

<p>The appointee is expected to strengthen the existing climate
and environmental change research cluster in the Department of
Earth Sciences as well as developing interdisciplinary
collaboration with other departments and units of the Faculty of
Science. Candidates in all areas of contemporary climate change
will be considered, with preference given to those using
modeling approaches. Applicants should have a distinguished
international reputation with a substantial research record.
They should be able to provide leadership to enhance the
Department's profile both locally and internationally as a
Centre of Excellence in research and teaching. Information about

<p>A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with
the appointee's qualifications and experience will be offered.
At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross
income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and
University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme,
totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and
medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as
applicable.</p>
