University Indianapolis (IUPUI) seeks two motivated students interested in
pursuing a MS or PhD (Applied Earth Sciences) degree in the Department of Earth
Sciences. Two federal funded projects are available to support the students’
endeavors. One NSF funded project is on the effects of non-rainfall water input
on plant-soil water interactions in drylands with fieldwork in Namibia. Another
project investigates the drought effects on forest water use (USDA-funded) with
fieldwork in Indiana. The positions are available from Fall 2017, and </span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'times new roman'">will be supported through research and teaching assistantships that </span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'times new roman'">provide a competitive stipend, tuition remission and health insurance. The
student(s) will be advised by Dr. Lixin Wang (</span><a href="http://earthsciences.iupui.edu/~lxwang"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'times new roman'">http://earthsciences.iupui.edu/~lxwang</span></a><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'times new roman'">). </span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'times new roman';color:black">Applicants must hold a BS degree in earth
sciences, hydrology, soil science, environmental sciences or related
disciplines, and have strong oral and written communication skills. Stable

university, currently enrolling more than 30,000 students. In 2011, IUPUI was ranked

Indianapolis is a very livable city with a wealth of outdoor, cultural, and
sporting activities. The department of Earth Sciences has a wide variety of
analytical facilities including LGR and Picarro water isotope analyzers, IRMS
facility for <sup>13</sup>C, <sup>15</sup>N and <sup>34</sup>S measurements, CN
analyzer, and wet chemistry laboratories equipped for soil, water and plant
analysis.<span></span></span></p>
