<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">The Department of Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering in the College of Engineering at</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">faculty position. Applicants at all ranks will be considered. We welcome applicants working on</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">tropical meteorology, extreme weather, data assimilation and the weather-climate continuum, as</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">well as applicants working at the interface between engineering and science applications.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">Applicants whose research emphasizes instrumentation, field observations, large-scale</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">computing or big data analysis are all welcomed to apply. Exceptional applicants in other areas</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">of the atmospheric sciences will also be considered.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">The successful candidate is expected to (1) develop a widely recognized and externally funded</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">research program, (2) supervise graduate students in research and (3) participate in the teaching</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">mission of the Department and the College at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">Interest in developing collaborative relationships in research and teaching with other departments</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">and colleges in the University is strongly encouraged. A PhD in a subject related to climate</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">sciences or other relevant disciplines in science or engineering is required. Applications should</div>

<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">Formerly known as the Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences, the</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">department changed to the current name in 2015 in order to better communicate the broad scope</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">and depth of research, teaching and service in the department and to emphasize its connection to</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">the College of Engineering. The department currently consists of 27 tenured or tenure-track</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">faculty and 125 graduate students with annual research expenditures of $52.2 million in 2016. It</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">offers an exciting research and teaching environment with wide scope and rich expertise within</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">the Department as well as diversified interdisciplinary opportunities within the University. A</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">recent highlight from the department is the incoming launch of the first NASA Earth-Venture</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">Mission, CYGNSS (Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System), which is led by our faculty</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">member and aims to improve extreme weather prediction. Research conducted within the</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">Department covers radiation and climate, remote sensing, atmospheric dynamics and numerical</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">methods, carbon cycle science, atmospheric chemistry and air pollution, aerosol-cloud-climate</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">interactions, as well as mesosphere-to-ionosphere coupling, heliophysics, space weather, and</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">planetary science. Strong expertise exists in instrumentation, numerical simulations, as well as</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">theoretical studies. In addition to the regular PhD program, the department also offers Master of</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;" class="">Engineering programs in Applied Climate and Space Engineering.</div>
