We seek motivated students to conduct graduate research starting Summer or Fall 2017 on groundwater dynamics in mountainous systems. Wyoming is a headwater state with the majority of precipitation falling as snow in the mountains, with
historically less research focus on quantifying the role of groundwater in local to regional scale hydrologic signals. A student is sought who will develop a project to quantify how mountainous groundwater systems theoretically can and do change the timing,
availability, and quality of water reaching low order streams. Thus, the student will be encouraged to approach this problem via numerical and field analyses, ranging from MODFLOW modeling to collecting and interpreting water level and geophysical time series.

Students with a strong quantitative background and an interest in groundwater hydrology, preferably with a MS degree, are invited to apply by March 1, 2017. The student will be advised and supported by Dr. Kevin Befus (http://www.uwyo.edu/befushydro)
in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering (http://www.uwyo.edu/civil/) and interact extensively with the Wyoming Center for Environmental Hydrology and Geophysics (WyCEHG,
http://www.uwyo.edu/epscor/wycehg/). For more information on the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Hydrologic Sciences program, please refer to the WRESE website (http://www.uwyo.edu/wrese/).
Direct questions about this research opportunity to Dr. Befus (kbefus@uwyo.edu).
