I invite applications for doctoral work in my lab beginning fall 2017 in=20=<br>
<br>
the areas of biogeochemistry, forest ecology, global change biology and=20=<br>
<br>
related fields. Applicants should be independent and highly motivated=20<br>
with academic research and/or field experience in plant ecology, soil=20<br>
ecology or nutrient cycling. Funding is available to work on a project=20=<br>
<br>
at Hubbard Brook examining the effects of climate change on forest=20<br>
productivity and nutrient dynamics in northern hardwood forests=20<br>
(<a href="http://www.hubbardbrook.org/research/climate/templer.shtml" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">www.hubbardbrook.org/<wbr>research/climate/templer.shtml</a><wbr>). This NSF-funded=20=<br>
<br>
project aims to better understand how climate change affects=20<br>
biogeochemical cycling of nitrogen, carbon and water.<br>
<br>
Research in our lab covers a broad range of topics including human=20<br>
impacts on the global nitrogen cycle, the effects of urbanization on=20<br>
nitrogen and carbon cycling, nutrient inputs from fog to coastal forest=20=<br>
<br>
ecosystems, and the role of disturbances in nutrient uptake by trees.=20<br>
Students in our lab participate in the interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program=20=<br>
<br>
in Biogeoscience at Boston University (<a href="http://www.bu.edu/bio-geo" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">www.bu.edu/bio-geo</a>), which spans=20=<br>
<br>
many departments including Biology, Earth & Environment, and=20<br>
Archaeology. The Graduate School at Boston University guarantees five=20<br>
years of salary for Ph.D. students.<br>
