validity of activities undertaken by the Department of Energy (DOE) in managing and disposing of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. DOE manages and will dispose of its own spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. Under the terms
of the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, DOE will also transport spent nuclear fuel from commercial nuclear power plant sites to federal facilities and manage its later disposal. The Board is composed of eleven eminent scientists and engineers appointed by
the President. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<span style="font-size:11.0pt;color:black">A panel of the Board's staff will initially evaluate each application on the basis of the resume, the written statement, the most recent performance appraisal (if the applicant is a current federal employee), and any
other documents submitted by the applicant to support the application. Based on this initial evaluation of the applications, the panel will compile a short-list of candidates to be interviewed by an interview board which may include the Chairman, other Board
members, the Executive Director, and pertinent Board staff. Candidates may be requested to provide additional documents during the selection process. References will be contacted before the final selection is made by the Chairman, in consultation with the
Executive Director and other Board members. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
