Our group at the University of California, Irvine seeks a
postdoctoral
researcher in radiative processes in snow, sea ice, and melt ponds.
The successful applicant will collaborate with snow and sea ice
scientists at UCI and LANL to improve radiative processes in the
CICE
model used in the DOE ACME and NCAR CESM modeling frameworks.
The project entails modifying, running, and analyzing global climate
and offline models (of NCAR's CESM-heritage), refining radiative
parameterizations, and presenting original scientific results at
meetings and in publications. The Department of Earth System Science
at UCI houses numerous groups that conduct cryospheric research,
enjoys pleasant weather year-round, and supports diversity.

Requirements include a PhD or equivalent experience in a climate- or
computation-related field, skill in data-analysis, Fortran, and C or
Python. Preferences include expertise in radiative transfer and
experience with CESM and CICE. Consideration of applications begins
immediately and continues until the position is filled. Rank and
salary based on qualifications and available funding. Benefits
package
included. Send PDF-format statement of career objectives, CV, and
contact information for three references to: Professor Charlie
