The starting date is July 1, 2017. The rank for these positions is directed at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The Department seeks applicants in the fields of: 1) Analytical Chemistry, 2) Environmental Chemistry. Preferential consideration will be given to outstanding individuals whose research areas are of consensual interest to the faculty and complement current expertise in the Department. The Department has vibrant research programs encompassing most areas of modern chemistry including materials and nanoscience, catalysis, analytical chemistry, spectroscopy, synthesis and medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, computational chemistry, and instrumentation and analysis (<a href="http://www.chem.ualberta.ca/" style="color:rgb(102,102,102)">www.chem.ualberta.ca</a>). An outstanding research environment is offered with access to excellent support facilities.</p><p style="margin:0px 0px 0.8em;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:12px;line-height:16.8px">Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. Criteria for research excellence will include a strong record of publications and presentations in high impact venues, a successful research funding history (in the case of applicants who already hold a tenure-track position), a summary of planned research projects, and appropriately supportive and detailed letters of reference. Evidence of high-calibre teaching and supervisory potential will be documented via previous teaching experiences, letters of reference, and a statement of teaching philosophy. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an innovative and robust externally-funded research program, regularly engage in relevant domestic and international research networks, teach both graduate and undergraduate classes, supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and provide service to the Department, the Faculty, and the University, as well as to professional and external communities.</p><p style="margin:0px 0px 0.8em;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:12px;line-height:16.8px">Interested individuals should submit a curriculum vitae, a clear statement of which field they are applying in, a proposal that details innovative and original research, a statement of teaching philosophy, and arrange to have three confidential letters of reference sent on their behalf. </p><p style="margin:0px 0px 0.8em;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:12px;line-height:16.8px"><span title="Added By: Laura Pham" class=""><em>To assist the University in complying with mandatory reporting requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (R203(3)(e), please include the first digit of your Canadian Social Insurance Number in your application (within your cover letter).
