<span style="font-size:12.0pt">The Emission and Exposure Research Section has an opening for a staff air pollution specialist who will take a leading role in methane and other GHG research efforts in support of ARB programs and in compliance with Assembly Bill
1496 (AB 1496) to study high-emission methane hot spots in the State. The Section is responsible for the design, implementation, analysis, and synthesis of applied research studies to evaluate the emission behavior, and air pollution, exposure, and climate
impacts of important air pollution emission sources (mobile sources, oil and gas activities, landfills, dairies, etc.). Section staff are responsible for undertaking in-house research studies, and routinely participate in advanced research efforts with leading
researchers from various universities, national and state research labs, and manage important extramural research contracts. Section staff are tasked with developing complex studies involving mobile measurement platforms, remote sensing applications, and
emission flux towers, and responsible for managing ground-breaking research efforts including the Statewide Methane Surveys, and the Statewide GHG Monitoring Network.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;text-align:justify">
<span style="font-size:12.0pt">The selected candidate will be responsible for implementing the research program envisioned under AB 1496, and to leverage other research efforts on methane emissions to achieve a step change in our understanding of methane emissions
sources. The candidate will need to interact and lead the coordination with other ARB divisions, stakeholders, industry representatives, local air districts, and researchers, state and federal partners. The research should be arranged and communicated to maximize
its utility for inventories, regulatory and program efforts at ARB, and the State’s goal of reducing methane emissions by 40% by 2030. Specifically, the candidate will be tasked with development and implementation of large-scale field studies to improve our
understanding of the different GHG emission sources, and should have detailed knowledge of the impacts and distribution of the various GHG emissions source sectors throughout the State. Candidates must have experience with stakeholder coordination and interactions,
and the ability to effectively translate scientific and research findings into useable program and policy recommendations. The candidate will be expected to publish research findings in the scientific literature. Other responsibilities include advanced computational
modeling for data analysis (source apportionment, inverse modeling, etc.), air pollution trend analyses, and other statistical and numerical analyses to handle large and complex datasets. The selected candidate will be positioned to advise the Agency on GHG
research and program planning efforts, and have opportunities to network with national and international stakeholders to provide scientific recommendations for climate policy development and implementation.
