Subject: 3 tenure track positions in ecology at the University of Michigan<br>

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of<br>
Michigan seeks applicants for three assistant professor (tenure-track)<br>
positions in ecology. These are university-year appointments with an<br>
expected start date of <span tabindex="0" class=""><span class="">September 1, 2017</span></span>.<br>
<br>
1. Ecosystem ecologist. We welcome applicants who study ecosystem process=<br>
es in any of the planet's major ecosystems, including aquatic, terrestrial,<br>
wild-land, managed and urban ecosystems. We are especially interested in<br>
individuals who include field and experimental approaches in their reseach.<br>
Areas of interest include, amongst others, biogeochemistry, carbon sequestration, and the effects of environmental change on ecosystem pools and fluxes.<br>
<br>
2. Population/community ecologist. We welcome applicants who study processes<br>
in any ecosystem or habitat type, including managed and urban systems. We also encourage individuals interested in interdisciplinary research. Areas of interest include, amongst others, mechanisms of population regulation; causes of species extinctions; and maintenance of biodiversity, community structure and ecosystem function under environmental change. Ideally,<br>
candidates will have an empirical research program that bridges to<br>
ecological theory.<br>

3. Theoretical ecologist. We seek applicants who bring cutting-edge<br>
theoretical, mathematical, and computational tools to the study of<br>
ecological systems of any kind, including traditional fields such as<br>
population dynamics and community assembly as well as emerging<br>
subdisciplines such as urban ecology, macroecology, microbial ecology,<br>
disease ecology and eco-immunology. Applicants with inter- and<br>
trans-disciplinary interests and who integrate theoretical development with<br>
empirical tests, whether alone or in collaboration, are especially<br>
encouraged to apply. This position will be a joint appointment with the<br>
University of Michigan Center for the Study of Complex Systems.<br>

For all three positions, we are especially interested in individuals who<br>
will leverage the facilities available at the University of Michigan,<br>
including world class biodiversity collections, a local field research<br>
facility (the Edwin S. George Reserve), and a large educational and research<br>
facility in northern Michigan (the University of Michigan Biological Station).<br>
