Subject: Faculty Positions in Geosciences and in Environmental Sciences<br>

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Johns Hopkins=20<br>
University invites applications for multiple tenure-track or tenured=20<br>
faculty positions. The positions can be filled at the Assistant,=20<br>
Associate, or Full Professor level, starting as early as Fall 2016. The=20=<br>
<br>
successful candidates are expected to develop internationally recognized=20=<br>
<br>
and externally funded research programs, to help develop and participate=20=<br>
<br>
in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and to supervise graduate=20<br>
student research. In the case of an appointment with tenure, the=20<br>
candidate must already be internationally recognized and have a=20<br>
demonstrated record of external research funding. A PhD is required in=20=<br>
<br>
the earth sciences or a related natural sciences discipline; post-<br>
doctoral experience is desirable.<br>
Applicants are sought for two focus areas:<br>
Geosciences including low-temperature geochemistry and studies of the=20<br>
early Earth, cosmochemistry, geophysics and geodynamics, volcanology and=20=<br>
<br>
igneous petrology. We are particularly interested in candidates whose=20<br>
research has synergies with our recent hires with expertise in=20<br>
sedimentary, metamorphic and tectonic processes, planetary geology, and=20=<br>
<br>
planetary atmospheres.<br>
Environmental Sciences including: natural resources (including water,=20<br>
metals, soils, and energy), ecology, critical zone science, marine=20<br>
sciences, cryospheric sciences, geomorphology, landscape hydrology,=20<br>
environmental change, air pollution, and, biogeochemistry. We are=20<br>
particularly interested in candidates whose research has synergies with=20=<br>
<br>
our program in Global Environmental Change and Sustainability.<br>
Opportunities exist for the successful candidate to forge research and=20=<br>
<br>
teaching ties with other parts of the Johns Hopkins community that are=20=<br>
<br>
active in the earth and environmental sciences, and sustainability. They=20=<br>
<br>
include multiple engineering departments, Environmental Health Sciences=20=<br>
<br>
at the School of Public Health, the Applied Physics Laboratory, and the=20=<br>
<br>
cross-departmental Environment, Energy, Sustainability, and Health=20<br>
Institute. There are excellent opportunities for additional=20<br>
collaborations within the Baltimore-Washington region, including with=20<br>
the Carnegie Institution, the Smithsonian Institution, the U.S.=20<br>
Geological Survey, the University of Maryland, and NASA Goddard Space=20<br>
Flight Center.<br>
