Associate Research Professor - Climatology

The Division of Atmospheric Sciences (DAS) of the
Desert Research Institute (DRI) is seeking an
Associate Research Professor in the area of
aerosol/climate interactions. The successful
candidate is expected to build a research program
studying aerosol radiative forcing and response of
the climate system. They will integrate observations
and modeling to explore past and present forcing of
the climate system due to aerosols and advance
research on modeling impacts of future projections
of aerosol emissions. The candidate will have
demonstrated experience working with multiple
observational datasets to constrain aerosol forcing
of climate. The candidate will also have
demonstrated experience performing climate
simulations with global climate models. DRI's
research programs are externally funded with grants
and contracts. The successful candidate will have a
demonstrated capability to attract external funding
to support their research.

DRI's faculty members are untenured,
entrepreneurial and responsible for their own
salaries from external grants and contracts. This
blend of academic rigor and private-sector
pragmatism has earned DRI a reputation for
delivering rapid, high-quality environmental science
in a businesslike fashion. The successful candidate
will be encouraged to collaborate with DRI's
research laboratories, including the Environmental
Analysis Facility, Organic Analytical Laboratory,
Storm Peak Laboratory, Carter Family Optics and
Acoustics Laboratory, and the Applied Innovation
Center for Advanced Analytics. The successful
candidate will also have the opportunity to join the
graduate faculty of the University of Nevada, Reno
(UNR) Interdisciplinary Program in Atmospheric
Sciences, which offers graduate degrees in
atmospheric sciences. The program is jointly
administered by UNR and DRI, offering DAS faculty
the opportunity to teach courses and advise graduate
students.

datasets of aerosols and climate.

Demonstrated expertise in designing and
executing climate model experiments.

Demonstrated track record of scientific
publication in atmospheric science and/or climate
journals.

Demonstrated track record of external funding
