<div>RESPONSIBILITIES: </div>
<div>The successful candidate will work on improving long-range
forecasts of the start of the growing season in North America
using ensemble-MOS techniques applied to seasonal transitions.
This project will advance seasonal prediction by focusing on
forecasts of the start of spring. It will further apply novel
statistical tools to develop probabilistic forecasts from
state-of-the art dynamical seasonal forecasts obtained from
the North American Multimodel Ensemble (NMME), and it will
support development of a new long hybrid statistical-dynamical
reforecast experiment. These research activities will be
guided by efforts to understand how ensemble size,
composition, and reforecast period can lead to improvements in
seasonal prediction. Finally, although the focus of this
research is on seasonal transitions, the approaches here
could, in principle, be adapted to other aspects of the
climate system, and to other parts of the world. </div>
