is seeking a professional looking to apply his or her
expertise in hydrology and water resources management as the
Water Availability Research Coordinator in the Research and
Development (R&D) Office. The R&D Office identifies
technical and scientific problems affecting accomplishment
of Reclamation's mission, promotes development of
cost-effective solutions, and communicates those solutions
to Reclamation offices, other water and power management
officials and the general public.<br style="box-sizing:

The incumbent would support R&D’s Science and Technology
(S&T) program through implementation of four primary
areas: strategic planning, research projects coordination,
external collaboration, and internal capacity building. Work
includes engaging with Reclamation's leadership, scientists,
and research facility managers to develop and maintain a
research strategy addressing water availability needs in a
changing climate that reflects the needs of water managers
in the western United States; coordinating the annual
implementation of S&T water availability research that
includes brokering high-priority projects in collaboration
with internal and external researchers; expanding
Reclamation’s capacity, knowledge, and tools for water
availability analysis and technology development by
developing partnerships with universities, Federal research
organizations, national laboratories, state and local
agencies, and foreign organizations; serving as R&D
liaison to targeted users of water availability research
products; and, contributing to S&T Technology Prize
Competition implementation by leading assembly of
interagency teams to design, implement, and judge
competitions addressing water availability challenges.<br
style="box-sizing: border-box;">
<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
Would you enjoy supporting Reclamation’s innovation
activities addressing water availability needs under climate
change and variability? You can make a difference in the
West by coordinating these activities to improve water
management while protecting the environment. Here is a great
opportunity to join a great organization with stellar growth
potential! Great Benefits Package: paid vacation, sick days,
holidays, health and life insurance and an excellent

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Applicants must first meet the
GS-1315 Basic Education Qualification Requirements listed
below:<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
A. Degree: physical or natural science, or engineering that
included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of
courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics,
chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic
biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology,
oceanography, or the management or conservation of water
resources. The course work must have included at least 6
semester hours in calculus (including both differential and
integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
Calculus and physics, as described above, are requirements for
all grade levels.<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">

OR<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
B. Combination of education and experience -- course work as
shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional
education.<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
<em style="box-sizing: border-box;">Evaluation of Experience:</em><span
class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Acceptable experience
must have included performance of scientific functions related
to the study of water resources, based on and requiring a
professional knowledge of related sciences and the consistent
application of basic scientific principles to the solution of
theoretical and practical hydrologic problems. The following
is illustrative of acceptable experience: field or laboratory
work that would require application of hydrologic theory and
related sciences such as geology, geo-chemistry, geophysics,
or civil engineering to making observations, taking samples,
operating instruments, assembling data from source materials,
analyzing and interpreting data, and reporting findings orally
and in writing. In some cases, professional scientific
experience that is not clearly water resource experience may
be acceptable if such experience was preceded by appropriate
education in hydrology or by professional hydrology
experience.<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
Applicants with related experience in hydrology gained through
earlier Federal Government employment might have gained that
experience in one or more occupational series. Such series
include Soil Conservation, GS-457; Forestry, GS-460; Soil
Science, GS-470; Civil Engineering, GS-810; Chemistry,
GS-1320; Meteorology, GS-1340; and Geology, GS-1350.
Comparable non-Federal experience may be given similar credit.<br

equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-12
grade level in the Federal service.<br style="box-sizing:

GS-14: You must have one year of specialized experience
equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-13
grade level in the Federal service.<br style="box-sizing:

<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
GS-13 specialized experience includes: (1) conducting research
focused on any of the following: (a) developing improved
methods for water availability observation or prediction under
long-term climate change or short-term climate/weather
variability; (b) improving how water availability observations
or predictions are used in water management; or, (c)
increasing water availability by developing new water
efficiency or conservation tools; and, (2) conducting a water
resource management assessment situated in the western United
States that involves characterizing at least two of the
following: available water supplies, system water demands, or
system management performance (e.g., reservoir operations
performance, irrigation system performance).<br
style="box-sizing: border-box;">
<br style="box-sizing: border-box;">
GS-14 specialized experience includes: (1) serving as lead
author on at least one report summarizing results from
research focused on any of the following: (a) developing
improved methods for water availability observation or
prediction under long-term climate change or short-term
climate/weather variability; (b) improving how water
availability observations or predictions are used in water
management; or, (c) increasing water availability by
developing new water efficiency or conservation tools; and,
(2) serving as lead author of at least one report summarizing
results from a climate change vulnerability assessment for
water resources management situated in the western U.S. that
