<p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px;">The
Department of Land, Air & Water Resources in the College of
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of
California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Cloud
Physics and Climate Change. This is an academic year (9-month),
tenure track position that includes the expectation of
mission-oriented research and outreach relevant to the
California Agricultural Experiment Station.</p>
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px;">We are
seeking applicants that focus on the physics of clouds and its
connections to the climate system, using modeling, laboratory,
and/or field approaches. Examples of topics include cloud
microphysical processes, aerosol-cloud-radiation interactions,
precipitation efficiency, or the representation of cloud
processes in climate/weather models. The ideal candidate will
link cloud processes with other components of the Earth system,
especially the hydrologic system. The successful candidate will
coordinate with existing departmental colleagues who have
expertise in large-scale and climate dynamics, climate modeling,
mesoscale modeling, hydrology, biomicrometeorology,
boundary-layer meteorology, Earth system modeling, and
atmospheric chemistry.</p>
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px;">The
appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded
research program that addresses critical issues in cloud physics
and climate change, and will be responsible for teaching
undergraduate courses for the Atmospheric Science and
Environmental Science and Management majors. Possibilities
include general education courses in climate change (ATM 5) and
severe weather (ATM 10), and upper division courses in cloud
physics (ATM 120), geophysical fluid dynamics (ATM 121a and
121b), climate change (ATM 116), and radiative transfer (ATM
128). The successful candidate will also teach a graduate course
on topics such as advanced dynamics (ATM 221), climate dynamics
(ATM 241), or cloud physics – climate interactions (which has
not been offered on campus). After a few years of building a
class portfolio, we expect the appointee to teach an average of
2.5 courses per year (i.e., every three quarters), typically two
undergraduate courses each year and a graduate course in
alternate years, in addition to occasionally running a seminar
series. Supervision of graduate students, undergraduate student
advising, curricular development, participation in outreach
programs, and university service are expected. Consistent with
the mission of a Land Grant university and in support of the
goals of the California Agricultural Experiment Station,
research developed under the appointee’s research program should
include an applied component useful to constituents in the
public and/or private sectors.</p>
