The Department of Forest Ecology and Management=20<br>

conducts research and education in both basic and=20<br>
applied science in the areas of Vegetation=20<br>
Ecology, Soil Science and Forest Management. The=20<br>
major research focus is on the boreal landscape,=20<br>
including peatlands, forests and surface waters,=20<br>
but we have activities also in other biomes. The=20<br>
current position is in Soil=20<br>
Science/Biogeochemistry. In a recent evaluation=20<br>
(2009) of the university the Soil Science/Soil=20<br>
Biogeochemistry group was ranked among the top=20<br>
seven out of a total of 130 groups at the=20<br>
university. The department has about 85 members=20<br>
of staff of which 12 are professors. Research=20<br>
areas include plant-soil interactions, surface=20<br>
water hydrogeochemistry, soil chemistry, soil=20<br>
biology, biosphere-atmosphere exchange, forest=20<br>
history, forest management, forest regeneration,=20<br>
plant population and community ecology. The=20<br>
department has modern technical facilities, close=20<br>
collaboration with several state-of-the-art=20<br>
technical platforms at Ume=E5 University, and=20<br>
access to unique long-term forest ecosystem=20<br>
experiments and other field sites.<br>

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral=20<br>
Researcher with focus on: Boreal Landscape Carbon Dynamics and Exchanges<br>
<br>
Project and Tasks<br>
The postdoc will investigate the carbon balance=20<br>
of a boreal landscape in Northern Sweden. For=20<br>
this project, the postdoc will use a unique set=20<br>
up that integrates the well-established SITES=20<br>
research infrastructure of the Krycklan catchment=20<br>
with the ICOS-Svartberget tall tower flux station=20<br>
providing data of all terrestrial and aquatic C=20<br>
fluxes over a 68 km2 managed forest catchment.=20<br>
Combined with >500 forest inventory plots, 16=20<br>
long-term monitored streams, high-resolution=20<br>
Lidar scans and an advanced hydrology model,=20<br>
these state-of-the-art research tools provide=20<br>
exceptional resources for investigating forest C=20<br>
dynamics, budgets and its underlying drivers=20<br>
spanning from the plot to the landscape scale.<br>
The successful candidate will be mainly=20<br>
responsible for processing and interpreting=20<br>
eddy-covariance data and for publishing findings=20<br>
in relevant high-rank scientific journals.=20<br>
Additional opportunities include integrating=20<br>
tower flux data with closed chamber, climate and forest inventory data.<br>

The postdoc location is at the Forestry Faculty=20<br>
of the Swedish University of Agricultural=20<br>
Sciences (SLU), Department of Forest Ecology &=20<br>
Management, in Ume=E5, Sweden. The field work will=20<br>
be carried out around the ICOS Svartberget flux=20<br>
station=20<br>
