U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) seeks candidates for a full-time permanent
research position in environmental mineralogy/geochemistry at the GS-12 grade.
This early-career interdisciplinary position in the Mineral Resources Program
(MRP) (</span><a href="http://minerals.usgs.gov/" target="_blank"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">http://minerals.usgs.gov/</span></a><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">) may be filled under these
job series: Research Geologist or Research Chemist. Grade and salary ($76,378
to $99,296) will be based on education and experience. Prior to starting
employment with the USGS, a successful applicant will have demonstrated
educational and research accomplishments, through the attainment of a Ph.D. (or
equivalent education and experience) in a field related to environmental
mineralogy/geochemistry. Experience will include analyses of minerals, bulk
solid samples such as mine waste or sediments, water samples, and other
environmental samples, particularly from metal mine sites, as well as research
in areas such as trace element geochemistry, experimental geochemistry, and
soil or sediment science. Experience in mineral characterization will include
standard techniques such as optical petrography, X-ray diffraction, scanning
electron microscopy, and electron probe microanalysis. Additional experience
with advanced techniques such as synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopy, Raman
spectroscopy, or transmission electron microscopy, among others will be
considered favorably. The applicant will have demonstrated scientific vision,
leadership, and productivity in societally-relevant, and collaborative inter-disciplinary
research topics.</span></p>

collaborate with scientists nationally and internationally as well as with
