<div>Ph.D. Position Available in Marine Microbial Processes</div>

<div>A Ph.D. position is available in the newly established Field lab within the Department of Biology at East Carolina University beginning Fall 2016. Research interests in this lab encompass marine microbial processes, geomicrobiology, and microbial genomics.
Research projects include groundwater-surface water interactions in coastal environments, the role of marine iron-oxidizing bacteria in biogeochemical cycling, and the use of -omics data to cultivate novel environmental microbes. The successful candidate will
have the opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research by combining next generation -omics techniques (with particular emphasis on single cell genomics and metagenomics), bacterial enrichment and cultivation studies, geochemical analyses, and field work.
Previous research experience in any of these areas, especially with analysis of next-generation sequence data, is preferable. Additional research information can be found online (www.ekfieldmicrobes.com). Prospective students must have a B.S. in microbiology,
biology, marine science, or related field. The qualified candidate should also have strong communication skills in scientific writing, oral presentations, and the ability to work well in a collaborative environment.</div>

<div>East Carolina University is the third largest campus in the University of NC system and has an active and well-supported group of faculty working largely in the areas of ecology and evolution. There are two doctoral programs within the Department of Biology:
Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Biological Sciences (IDPBS) and Coastal Resources Management Program (CRMP). Currently, there are >70 MS students and >20 doctoral students enrolled in these graduate programs. Additional information about the department
