<b>Tasks:</b> <br>
The position is linked to the BMBF-Project (PLOT – Paleolimnological Transect) which will improve our knowledge and understanding of the climate and environmental history of the Eurasian Arctic. The focus of this position will be on stable isotope analytics
of biogenic silica (diatoms) in an E-W transect of Russian lakes to gather information on hydrological and paleoenvironmental dynamics in Eurasia.

<br>
The candidate should carry out the work at the PDZ Europa mass spectrometer with laser fluorination line in the AWI Potsdam isotope laboratory and coordinate the cleaning procedures for lacustrine sediment samples. The isotope laboratory comprises five mass
spectrometers and three laser spectrometers for the isotope analytics of oxygen and hydrogen (in water), carbon and nitrogen (in sediments) as well as the laser fluorination for oxygen isotopes in silicates.
<br>
<br>
<b>Requirements: </b><br>
The candidate should have a PhD in geosciences, or a closely related environmental science discipline and ideally should have a strong background in stable isotope geochemistry and terrestrial paleoclimate as well as experience in the work with (lake) sediments.
The candidate need to have practical experience with mass spectrometry on the day-to-day basis. Further experiences i.e. with laser fluorination, and the complex cleaning procedures for biogenic silica for isotope analyses are beneficial.

<br>
He/She should be willing to participate in expeditions to polar regions. The candidate should further present the results at international conferences and to publish in peer-review journals. Fluent English in written and oral form is mandatory, working knowledge
of German beneficial. <br>
<br>
The scientist will be a member of the Periglacial Research Group at AWI Potsdam. The focus of this group is the understanding of current and past environmental dynamics in permafrost regions applying an interdisciplinary research approach. Hence, the candidate
should have a strong motivation and ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.<br>
<br>
The salary will be paid in accordance with the German Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes (TVöD Bund, salary group 13). The position is limited to 3 years. The intended start is
