and the Climate Change Science Institute (CCSI),
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://climatechangescience.ornl.gov/">http://climatechangescience.ornl.gov/</a>, at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory (ORNL), <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.ornl.gov">http://www.ornl.gov</a>, has one postdoctoral
position available immediately. We seek a team-oriented candidate
that is able to help design, execute and test a
cutting-edge Earth System Model. Candidates are being recruited to
support projects to improve the representation of
nutrient cycling and microbial activities in Earth System Models.

Major Duties/Responsibilities
<br>
The postdoctoral fellow will interact closely with a team of genomic
scientists, soil scientists and earth system modelers and
conduct research into modeling how genomics of soil microbes can be
utilized to help predict greenhouse gas releases from
soils and their influence on future climate. The candidate’s primary
responsibilities will include developing and testing new
algorithms for key biogeochemical processes in Earth System Models,
participation in scientific conferences, and timely
publication of modeling results.

Qualifications Required
<br>
<br>
Ph.D. required in Computational Modeling, Environmental Science,
Soil Biogeochemistry, or related field.
A strong publication record, effective writing and presentation
skills, and experience with biogeochemical components of
earth system models are required. Expertise in bioinformatics or
nutrient cycling is desired but not required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to
communicate ideas clearly and effectively with people are
also required.
Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than
five years prior to the date of application and must
complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.
This position is a temporary, full-time assignment for 12 months and
up to 24 months, contingent on successful performance
and continued funding.
