POSITION DESCRIPTION:<br>
The Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation at Clemson<br>
University is seeking applications for a 12-month tenure-track (research<br>
and extension) position in Landscape Ecology at the Assistant Professor<br>
level. Potential candidates should demonstrate interests related to<br>
Landscape Ecology that complement existing faculty interests at the Baruch<br>
Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science (BICEFS). Candidates should<br>
demonstrate use or development of technology related to environmental<br>
monitoring and modeling, that include, but are not limited to, urban<br>
systems, invasive species, water resources, water quality, land use,<br>
forestry, and/or climate change. The incumbent will enhance Clemson's<br>
Cooperative Extension Service mission by working with a team dedicated to<br>
developing sensor and database technologies to effectively and efficiently<br>
quantify hydrological and ecological processes in South Carolina, as well<br>
as to work among the various disciplines that exist within the Clemson<br>
Cooperative Extension Service. The incumbent will be stationed at BICEFS (<br>
<a href="http://www.clemson.edu/public/rec/baruch/" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">http://www.clemson.edu/public/rec/baruch/</a>), located in Georgetown, SC, but<br>
will work with research and extension personnel across the state.<br>

RESPONSIBILITIES:<br>
<br>
The incumbent will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded<br>
research program in landscape ecology that includes the development and/or<br>
application of environmental sensor technology and data management at<br>
various spatial scales. Possible focal areas include but are not limited to<br>
monitoring impacts associated with natural and anthropogenic disturbances<br>
to the landscape, impacts of climate and land use changes to the state's<br>
natural resources, understanding urban ecosystems, effects of invasive<br>
species on ecosystem function, or quantifying ecosystem resilience from<br>
natural and anthropogenic disturbances. Abundant opportunities exist for<br>
collaborative research that aligns strategically with existing departmental<br>
strengths and Clemson's Intelligent Forest, River, and Farm initiatives.<br>
The faculty member would collaborate with researchers at Clemson's Baruch<br>
Institute and Experimental Station as well as other faculty within<br>
Clemson's Cooperative Extension Service who conduct research and extension<br>
activities related to natural resources management.<br>

QUALIFICATIONS:<br>
PhD in Ecology, Forestry, Natural Resource Conservation or Management,<br>
Ecological Engineering, or other closely related discipline in<br>
environmental science. Undergraduate or graduate training in the field of<br>
natural resources is desired, but not mandatory. Extension and/or teaching<br>
experience; the potential to develop a vigorous, extramurally funded<br>
research program; and a commitment to extension, research, and teaching are<br>
required. A strong publication record and post-doctoral or professional<br>
experience are desirable.<br>
