A PhD position is available beginning summer 2016 with Dr. Amy Marcarelli<br>
at Michigan Technological University as part of a 5-year, NSF-funded study<br>
of the balance between nitrogen fixation and denitrification across a range<br>
of reactive N concentrations in streams across the United States. This<br>
student will work with a dynamic team of collaborators, graduate students<br>
and undergraduate researchers to implement new analytical techniques for<br>
measuring net N2 flux in the field and lab and collect data from NEON<br>
network sites from Puerto Rico to Alaska. Four years of RA funding<br>
(including tuition) are available to support this student, and teaching<br>
opportunities are also available in the Department of Biological Sciences<br>
at Michigan Tech. An M.S. in aquatic ecology or related discipline is<br>
required; only substantial research and prior publication experience will<br>
be considered in lieu of a Master=E2=80=99s degree. All candidates must ha=<br>
ve prior<br>
experience working in field settings and be able to take on extended field<br>
campaigns, work well with a team as well as independently, and have skills<br>
and interest in aquatic biogeochemistry. Desired qualifications also<br>
include excellent academic record, a good quantitative background<br>
(including statistics), and strong writing and computing skills.<br>
