<div><b>The Position:</b> The Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences is searching for a tenure track faculty position in
<b>Aqueous Geochemistry/Hydrochemistry</b> at the rank of Assistant Professor to start Spring Semester, 2016 (with the potential for a delay to Fall, 2016). The position is contingent on funding. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching, mentoring
undergraduate and graduate students, and research. The position requires excellence in teaching and advising, a record of professional and scholarly achievements, and a commitment to service to the University. Aqueous geochemists study the interactions of
hydrological, geochemical, and biological processes that control surface and groundwater chemistry in managed and unmanaged ecosystems at diverse spatial scales. Candidates should approach local environmental issues with a global perspective, demonstrating
strong interest in the practical applications of water quality monitoring to help local stakeholders manage altered and natural ecosystems of Northern California sustainably and responsibly. The department seeks a well-rounded scientist studying the effects
of past and current land uses on the export, transformation, and fate of major and trace elements in terrestrial and aquatic systems, particularly at the interface between the mineral and dissolved phases which is critical in regulating contaminant fate. The
successful applicant should seamlessly integrate aspects of the broader fields of watershed hydrology, geosciences, biology, and ecology. The preferred candidate will possess extensive laboratory expertise with analytical and field techniques commonly used
in biogeochemical element cycling such as elemental and biochemical analyses (chromatography and spectrometry), spectrophotometric analyses (UV-vis absorption and fluorescence), and stable and radio-isotopic analyses. </div>

<div><b>Minimum Qualifications:</b> The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D. in Hydrology, Environmental Chemistry, or equivalent environmental science field. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered;
however, the doctorate must be completed prior to the start of employment. </div>

<div><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b> Candidates should be enthusiastic about working hands-on with a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students, developing connections with and mentoring Environmental Science majors in the Hydrology option. Preference
will be given to candidates with teaching experience in low-temperature aqueous geochemistry courses as well as general education Environmental Science courses, who can demonstrate familiarity with the use of instructional technology in the teaching-learning
process, and who understand the role of faculty in undergraduate and graduate student success, recruitment, and retention.</div>

<div><b>Responsibilities:</b> Primary teaching responsibilities will include lower and upper division undergraduate courses in the major as well as contributing to the general education courses. In addition, the successful candidate will develop senior and
graduate courses in hydro-geochemistry and other courses in the area of his or her expertise. Mentoring graduate students and advising undergraduate students are important responsibilities of this position. Additional service activities for the department,
college, and university are also expected. </div>

<div><b>The Department:</b> The Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences offers B.S. degrees in Geology and Environmental Sciences as well as M.S. degrees in Environmental Sciences and Geosciences. The department continues to grow and currently serves
