      <p><font color="#330033">PhD projects are available in the
          following broad areas<br>
        </font></p>
      <p><font color="#330033">1) Application of environmental isotopes
          and major ions together with streamflow data and groundwater
          elevations to understand the location and fluxes of
          groundwater to rivers, the residence time of water in river
          catchments, and whether different stores of water are
          activated under different flow conditions. These projects
          emphasise integration of geochemical and physical data to
          achieve an understanding of key processes that impact the
          water balance in rivers. Field areas are mainly in Victoria
          (southeast Australia) and include a variety of river types
          (ephemeral and perennial, headwater catchments, regulated and
          unregulated).</font></p>
      <p><font color="#330033">2) Using geochemical tracers to
          understand processes in aquifer systems. The projects
          integrate geochemistry, including stable and radioactive
          isotopes and major ions, with groundwater flow to achieve an
          understanding of processes such as the origins of solutes,
          water-rock interaction, groundwater residence times,
          inter-aquifer flow and recharge.  The projects are based in a
          range of aquifer systems in eastern Australia.</font></p>
      <p><font color="#330033">Successful applicants will typically hold
          an undergraduate degree based on at least 4 years of study,
          including a significant research project component in the
          fields of isotope hydrology or hydrogeochemistry.  Monash PhD
          scholarships are available to both Australian and
          International students. These scholarships are highly
          competitive and successful applicants must have First Class
          Honours or MSc qualifications or their equivalent; additional
          relevant research experience and/or research publications in
          international journals is advantageous. Further information on

          application deadline is October 31st 2015 for commencement in
          early 2016.</font></p>
      <p><font color="#330033">Applicants for whom English is not first
          language, or who have not undertaken their degree studies with
          English as the language of instruction, must attain a
          satisfactory English language test score (TOEFL or IELTS)
          before by November 30th.</font></p>
