Duties and Responsibilities:<br>
This is a 12-month tenure-accruing position at 30% teaching and 70%=20<br>
research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) at the West Florida=20=<br>
<br>
Research and Education Center at Milton, FL. Tenure will accrue in the=20=<br>
<br>
Department of Soil and Water Science at Gainesville. This assignment may=<br>
=20<br>
change in accordance with the needs of the unit. The research component o=<br>
f=20<br>
this assignment will develop an independent and nationally/internationall=<br>
y=20<br>
recognized program in the assessment of causes, effects and prevention of=<br>
=20<br>
surface water impairment (including estuaries, streams, wetlands and lake=<br>
s)=20<br>
due to changes in water quantity or quality associated with groundwater o=<br>
r=20<br>
surface water withdrawal and with point and non-point pollutants. The=20<br>
appointee will develop a strong extramurally funded research program that=<br>
=20<br>
leads to publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and the=20<br>
supervising/mentoring of graduate students. The faculty member is expecte=<br>
d=20<br>
to assume teaching duties in a dynamic on-going natural resources=20<br>
conservation program on the Milton campus. This faculty member is expecte=<br>
d=20<br>
to develop and teach two undergraduate/graduate courses per year related =<br>
to=20<br>
watershed management and natural resource conservation. Teaching=20<br>
responsibilities will focus upon the needs of the curriculum and the=20<br>
specific background of the individual hired into the position. The=20<br>
successful candidate will participate actively in graduate education by=20=<br>
<br>
chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and=20<br>
dissertation research, and publishing research results with students.=20=20=<br>
<br>

Qualifications:<br>
A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in, soil and water science,=20=<br>
<br>
watershed management, forestry, natural resource conservation,=20<br>
environmental science or a related discipline is required. Postdoctoral=20=<br>
<br>
experience is desirable. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in=20=<br>
<br>
verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and=20<br>
procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the=20=<br>
<br>
mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment=<br>

This position is part of the UF/IFAS West Florida Research and Education=20=<br>

Center located near Pensacola, Florida (<a href="http://wfrec.ifas.ufl.edu" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">http://wfrec.ifas.ufl.edu</a>). The=<br>
=20<br>
faculty member will be located on the Milton campus where the center has =<br>
an=20<br>
off-campus undergraduate academic program that is a collaborative effort=20=<br>
<br>
between the University of Florida, Pensacola State College (PSC) and the=20=<br>
<br>
University of West Florida. This unique academic program, located at the=<br>
=20<br>
PSC campus in Milton (approximately 20 miles northeast of Pensacola, FL),=<br>
=20<br>
allows students to pursue a B.S. degree in Natural Resource Conservation =<br>
or=20<br>
Plant Sciences. The Florida Panhandle and adjacent Gulf coast states=20<br>
contain a series of estuaries that are important to local human communiti=<br>
es=20<br>
that rely on estuaries and adjacent wetlands for food, recreation, jobs a=<br>
nd=20<br>
coastal protection. The rivers that support the health of these estuarie=<br>
s=20<br>
flow through urban, forested and agricultural watersheds. Over 600,000=20=<br>
<br>
acres of public land and 1,000,000 acres of forest and agricultural land=20=<br>
<br>
are within 200 miles of the center. In addition, the faculty member will=<br>
=20<br>
have access to the Jay Research Facility. This 640 acre research unit is=20=<br>
<br>
located about 12 miles north of Milton near Jay, FL. Faculty at WFREC=20=<br>
<br>
conduct research in cropping systems, weed science, golf and sports turf=20=<br>
<br>
management, landscape and nursery management, forestry, restoration and=20=<br>
<br>
wildlife ecology. The WFREC faculty and staff are dedicated to=20<br>
interdisciplinary research, extension and teaching programs that meet the=<br>
=20<br>
needs of local clientele with statewide, nationwide as well as global=20<br>
impacts. The location of WFREC allows families to enjoy the advantages o=<br>
