Wetland Biogeochemist/Ecologist (ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST 2)<br>

The Everglades Systems Assessment Section of the South Florida Water Manage=<br>
ment District seeks an Environmental Scientist to join a multi-disciplinary=<br>
team assessing the effectiveness of restoration activities on Everglades e=<br>
cosystem recovery. This position will primarily be responsible for providi=<br>
ng technical support for the Decompartmentalization Physical Model: a large=<br>
scale field study designed to examine the effects of restoring flow and ba=<br>
ckfilling canals on Everglades landscape recovery.<br>

The candidate's primary duty is to assist in the implementation of scientif=<br>
ic research on wetland biogeochemistry and ecology to support the Everglade=<br>
s restoration process and water management operational decisions. Research =<br>
will focus on microbial responses to wetland management, with particular em=<br>
phasis on the relationship between decomposition, hydrology and nutrient cy=<br>
cling. Primary responsibilities will be divided between field (30%), labora=<br>
tory (40%), and data management, analysis and project management (30%). Re=<br>
sponsibilities may include, but are not limited to; conducting laboratory a=<br>
nalyses of microbial responses, helping design and implement experimental a=<br>
nd observational studies, collecting and statistically analyzing laboratory=<br>
and field data, writing reports and collaborating on scientific manuscript=<br>
s, managing scientific contracts, and managing the Everglades Section field=<br>
float plan. The candidate will work closely with ecologists as part of a b=<br>
road multi-disciplinary team and will be exposed to a wide range of ecosyst=<br>
em studies.<br>

The candidate must possess a good understanding of wetland ecology and have=<br>
at least two (2) years of experience conducting laboratory analyses. Stron=<br>
g laboratory and field skills, experience with the use and operation of ana=<br>
lytical instruments and strong written and oral skills are required. The ca=<br>
ndidate must be proficient with PC-based word processing, spreadsheet and g=<br>
raphics software, and statistical software. Candidates should have experien=<br>
ce with statistical analyses and writing concise summaries of results.<br>

Minimum requirements include a BS degree in biology, ecology or related sub=<br>
ject (Masters preferred) and 1+ years experience that demonstrates measurab=<br>
le career progression within scientific discipline.<br>
