Maryland, Baltimore 21250. The Department of Geography and<br>
Environmental Systems at the University of Maryland Baltimore County<br>
(UMBC) invites applications and nominations for Department<br>
Chair. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a field that<br>
complements faculty strengths (e.g. Geography, Environmental Science,<br>
Conservation Science, Ecology, Natural Resources) and with academic<br>
achievements commensurate with appointment as a Full Professor,<br>
although senior Associate Professors will be considered as well. The<br>
candidate should have demonstrated leadership and administrative<br>
skills, a strong commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship and<br>
teaching, and an active research program.<br>

The Department has experienced rapid growth in recent years, more<br>
than doubling undergraduate majors to over 300 in our B.S. and B.A.<br>
programs, and with current enrollment of 50 M.S. students (including<br>
accelerated The department has 14 regular faculty and 9<br>
adjunct/affiliate faculty, and has established a strong record of<br>
federal grant support (e.g., NSF, NASA, NOAA, USDA). Faculty<br>
research interests cover a range of topics in human geography and<br>
environmental science and management, including ecology and<br>
biogeography, global change science, hydrology and geomorphology,<br>
meteorology and severe storms, GIS and remote sensing, urban<br>
geography, public health, environmental history, political ecology,<br>
resource conservation, and environmental policy. Urban environmental<br>
research is particularly well-represented with the presence on campus<br>
and faculty collaboration with the Center for Urban Environmental<br>
Research and Education (CUERE) and the Baltimore Ecosystem Study<br>
Urban LTER. We also have strong collaborative ties with UMBC's<br>
NASA-funded Joint Center for Earth Systems Technology and the USGS<br>
MD-DE-DC Water Science Center, both located in UMBC's Research Park.<br>
Collaborations with other departments and programs on campus include<br>
Biological Sciences; Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental<br>
Engineering; Computer Science and Electrical Engineering; Public<br>
Policy; Gender & Women's Studies; Global Studies; Interdisciplinary<br>
Studies; and the multi-campus Marine, Estuarine and Environmental<br>
Sciences program.<br>
